MF 1040, Different Japanese Manufactures?

While searching for a needle in the haystack.....eeer...I meant a part for my Massey 1040 4X4, I talked to no less then 20 dealers, salvage yards, mechanics, etc.

It seems that no one is in agreement as to what company actually manufactured the MF 1040 model, which was so short lived of a production that I can't even begin to assume more then one maker was building these things.

I was told they were built by any one of three of Nippons' finest, Iseki,Hinimoto,Toyoshi (spelling?) Although the engine is def. built by the latter, is it possible that another company built the chassis?

Any MF experts out there that know for absolute fact as to the REAL builder?

The builder plate on the tractor simply reads 'Massey Ferguson, Made in Japan'.......certainly not a lot to go by.

Last, but not least, two more questions?

Are there any other interchangable brands built at the same time,in other words, same machine different paint, etc, that we can pull parts from? Allis Chalmers 6140 perhaps?

Guesstimate as to how many parts can be interchanged between the MF 1040 and the 1045? Share the same chassis and none engine parts?

I looked at my 1040 owners manual and the shop manual. In the specks, it listed the motor manf. and starter mfg. etc., but did not list the total mfg. except for Massy. The shop manual covers the entire 1000 series, 1010,1020,1030,1040.

I know that an AC 5020 has a Toyosha 2cyl engine and the tractor was built by Hinomoto and that MF used the same tractor frame with a 3cyl engine and called it a 1020 also you could try calling Knoxland Equipment in Warner NH ask for Kevin in parts.they sold quite a few of these tractors back in the 80's

I don't think there were 3 different manufacturers. This sounds too much like my 1010. The diesel engine was made by Toyosha, the tractor by Hinomoto, which I think was later bought out by Iseki. I think Iseki still makes the subcompacts for MF.

Toyosha/Hinomoto went bankrupt. That is why finding parts is so difficult. MF contracted Iseki after this happened, and the 1100 series was born.

Hinomoto didn't go bankrupt. They were bought out by Hitachi and now build only heavy equipment.

Toyosha did, and thatis why no more parts.

If you need parts Weavers Farm equipment in Leola PA has them. They had everything I needed in stock none the less when the 4wd went out of my 1035. Limber up your wallet though, parts aren't cheap for these models.
