I'm looking at a 1040 loader on a MF 1455v 4wd. It has a 60" standard bucket on it now, but I prefer a 72" to cover the tractor width. I think it might be a good idea to go on and get the HD bucket for a couple of hundred dollars more. The HD bucket weighs about 200lbs more than the standard I think. Anyone familiar with the two buckets that might offer insight?

I would definately go with the 72" bucket to cover your tracks. As far as heavy or light duty, the light duty bucket for the 1040 will hold up to most jobs but if you expect a lot scraping or digging versus moving material around I would go with the heavy duty. I believe the heavy duty has a replaceable bolt on cutting edge as well.
