MF 1045 BIRFIELD CV Joint

Hey guys, Looking for a replacement part for a broken 87AC BIRFIELD NTN-EL5 front CV joint for for my MF1045. I've already contacted Leonard Sheaffer at Sheaffer's Town & Country Tractor but he wasn't overly optimistic.

Do a Google search for driveshaft shops/specialists/etc. There are many shops around the country that can fabricate just about anything.

I did look into it, but the machine shop wants some serious $. I did find out that the same part was used in some mid 80s Misubishi cars, but I would have to buy the entire axle assembly. Which would still be expensive and awfull waste.

Had you gotten a price from your local MF dealer? How does that compare with "custom" work? Try other dealers? Just some thoughts....

Try West Ky tractor parts. worth a shot. I have got a few parts for my mf 1040 there. And if you need shop manual, email me and I can sent you the proper section.

Well, I was in the very same boat as you were, until just today. I needed the same Drive yoke, and after alot of searching I found TWO!, They are by no means inexpensive, but I purchased two in order to try and get a deal, as they are used.
NO NEW CV's are available as per Agco's data base, and no dealers are showing any in stock in North America.....period. They are listed as part #3436940M1

Although I did find a few more, most of the salvage dealers were only willing to sell me the WHOLE 4x4 axle, (plus shipping for average of $3,500@!! Just to get the CV Joints out of them!

I can spare one, (I hope), and if you want it just send me a email back, and I will ship it to you. Not to worry. I am just a farmer, not a dealer looking to get rich.

I might ask, did you ever find out what models of mitsibishi cars were also supplied with this joint? I might be able to save some cash if there is a next time.
