Just bought a MF 1140 - and it's been kind of a pig in a poke.
After getting it home, it ran for 10 minutes, then the oil pressure light went on. It appears that was due to a bum pressure switch, because a real pressure gauge indicates it's running about 60 psi when cold and 45 when hot. I also took apart the old oil filter to check for metal and there's nothing in there besides the usual diesel soot. Also looked under the valve cover, and there's no sludge to be found. The last time I had one of these pressure switches go, it failed open, so the oil light never went on.
Now the problem to solve (besides all the jury-rigged wiring) is over-temperature. It gets to about 100 degrees C with the temp meter in the red, but the system never pressurizes. There's a cheapo Stant 23psi cap installed - so I'll try replacing that first. I am planning on pulling the radiator for a flush and replacing all the hoses (they look original).
Anything else I should look at?
