Hi,

For the past year Ive been using a MF 135 diesel to do the tractor work on my small veggie farm. It has been working great up until last week.

After about an hour and half or so of working the soil with a cultivator the engine suddenly started to over rev (up to 26rpm) and I couldnt control it with the hand throttle. I had to shut it off to stop it. Although I was able to start it up again without a problem, after a while the same thing would happen again. It occurred when I would come to a stop where i use the 3point hitch to lift up the cultivator and use the clutch to shift into reverse to turn around. At some point in that process is when is starts to over rev uncontrollably.

Im young and fairly inexperienced when it comes to tractor problems. I figured I could try and find some advise here. I would appreciate any kind of help.

Sounds similar to my mf 35 when I lost the governor, first check the linkage to be sure something is not broken or misadjusted. it all seems well you ned to remove the timing cover to inspect the actual govenor..

I'd say check the governor. Get a service manual for the 135 to guide you along. AGCO owns MF now and is a good source.

I searched AGCO for the service manual and found this publication MAN/SER MF135/150 TRACTO AGCO Technical Publications:

Would this one be the right service manual to get? Are there any other reliable sources for a service manual?

I truly hope you have decent pump shop available. I had to sell my ford diesel tractor as I couldn't afford the $800 it would take to have the local pump shop "look at it". Hope it's a simple fix. I know this doesn't help the problem. I'm still in sticker shop on the diesel pump repair shop prices. bjr

would having over filled (oil on dipstick way past the max mark) the engine oil cause this problem? I know its not good to do, but it just happened out of absent mindedness. It was only after this problem started that I emptied out some oil until the level was just under the max mark on dipstick. However, the problem still persisted afterwards. Its just a thought I had when trying to figure out if i might of done anything that was wrong in the first place to have problem started.
