Our MF 135 is equipped with a PTO that has the ground or engine speed option. Is this equivalent to 540/1000 or is it different? If it is different what speed would the engine speed be equal to 540 or 1000?
I'm not to familar with the ground speed seting but on engine speed the rpms should be in the 2000-2400 range, it should have a mark on the tack marked pto. the shaft is a 6 spline 540 only i belive any farm tractor with 1000 pto has 21 spline shaft, i don't think you could get a 1000 on that tractor. if i remember right the ground speed seting is for a transplanter or other slow job requiring slow engine speeds.
"When in doubt read the instructions." I've heard this all my life and my father happened to still have and found the owner's manual so that is what I did. It is a 540 and at 1700 rpms. The ground speed was for, as you said, implements like planters that needed the pto but at ground speed. I also found out what the Constant Pumping range on the lift control was for. When it is moved to this range the pump provides 4.8 gpm of hyd. fluid to the plate to enable the use of an external hyd outlet. I had always wondered what this was for. Now my only other question is why would a man use a tractor for 33 years and not fully understand everything about it. It would probably have never come up had it not been for my shopping for a new tractor with the different pto options.
Funny thing read the book! At work the bosses tell guys go run this or that,no time to read they tell them yoll figure it out. and that how that goes,I guess as long as we can get it to do what we wan't it's good enough.Sorry i wasn't sure IH was dads tractor of choice,so massy was hear say and little reading, for my experince
