Massey 135
Hi
Can anyone advise me on how to operate the external tipping pipe on my Massey 135?

I have purchased a simple rear loader attachment with one single acting ram. My 135 has a plumbed in tipping pipe and forward of the seat there is a small and simple 2 position selector lever which I understood to select internal/external hydraulics. This is not a control valve but simply a short lever about 2 inch long. Picture attached.

My expectation was that I would move the lever to alternate position, then operate the tipping pipe from the quadrant, however I guess this is wrong since it does not work! If I move the lever to the inboard position neither the linkage nor the tipping pipe operates. With the lever in the outboard position the linkage operates and the tipping pipe ram extends as the linkage rises, but it does not retract.

Would really appreciate if anyone knows the answer to this, I am not sure if there is a fault or if I should be doing something else or differently, or if I need to fit an additional control valve?

OK, now I think I have discovered that this lever is the isolation valve. Would much appreciate if anyone knows the correct way to operate it? Thanks.

Dave I have a similar leaver, On mine in the straight up position I then operate the lever to the far left (in your picture) to to raise the 3PTH lift arms. With the small leaver in the forward postion, I then raise the far left lever in the picture to send pressurized fluid to my Aux circuit. In other words, the lever under the seat will send fluid to the lift arms or aux circuit and is activated by the position lever. (draft lever does not work on my 135 and I have it locked in the up position.)

One comment I should make is that on my under the seat lever, I have both a return port and a pressure port (I use for a homemade backhoe) IN your picture, I see a tube over on the Right side of the Tranny. Wondering if that is a return port or a pressure port. Mine just has a bolt over there but I am investigating adding a PTO pump for the backhoe and now I am interested to see more pictures to see where that tube goes.

Thanks Dave. It sounds to me like the arrangement you have with ports on the block with the lever is one that I have seen often pictured and seems to work differently than mine. I am wondering if I need to fit something like that, but before I start messing about with it I would like to figure out what the existing arrangement is supposed to do!

On mine the pipe on the right in the photo is the tipping pipe / pressure port that I am trying to operate. (I am suddenly wondering if it is double acting.)
One interesting point. I was told (by an experienced engineer on modern tractors) that the draft lever does not work on my 135, but then I found that this was incorrect.

Actually the round head leaver on far left in the photo is the draft lever, the adjacent square lever is the position lever. The correct designed way to operate the linkage position is to move the draft (round) leaver to the fully up position, and then set position with the square leaver. Note the square position lever does not work unless the round draft lever is in the fully up position. This way gives much more positive control over the position and more lifting power than positioning with the round draft lever.

Maybe this will work for yours.
