Does any one have any tips on re-installing the Delco distributor in a 135 with a Continental Z134 engine in terms of lining up with # 1 cylinder at TDC The manual doesn't provide a lot of info Thanks. Gpops

There is a peep hole on the left side if sitting on the tractor on the front side of the bell housing. The flywheel timing marks can be seen thru the hole. Pull #1 cylinder spark plug. Place a hard wad of paper in the plug hole. Roll the engine over till it blows the wad out of the plug hole. Now rotate and check the peep hole till you see TDC. Top Dead Center. The distributor should be pointing to #1 plug. You are now static timed. It timing requires before or after if can be tweaked while running with a timing light pointed at the peep hole. There is also a spring under the points punting plate which attaches to to centrifugal advance. If your going this far, you need to check those weights to make sure they move freely and the spring is still attached. Summit sells replacement springs in three strengths. The springs allow the timing advance while the engine is under load. If the advance doesn't work properly you will be sacrificing horsepower. Your owners manual has the timing settings.

BTW, unless someone changed engines, you have a Z145. I also have a 65 135 with the Continental engine. I've made a few changes to mine since I bought it. See my signature line for the link. Have fun and get those hands dirty. -kid

He could have "less" than a 145 if he has the "special", ie. does not have a tach or 2 stage clutch...I think they had the slightly smaller engine than the Z145.. I may be wrong, but I'm never in doubt...BobG

The tractor has no tach and has a single stage clutch. The head and block castings show Z134 but I'm not sure that means a whole lot. Again thanks for the help Gpops
