Well, I've decided to go MF after a lot of research and help from you people. My final decision is 1428 or 1431. The dealer has had the 1431 on the lot a while and has offered to me for $22,300 with FEL, BH and R-4 tires. $22,000 for the same set-up on the 1428. I'm leaning towards the 1431. Do these prices seem fair for these machines?

FAL1, For three hundred bucks I would definately go with the 1431 are they both V's or not. And are they both using same trans?
From what I understand the MF /BH is about a $7000 option which means the tractor is $16000. Is that the breakdown you get from the dealer?
These tractors pricing is differ through out the country so without your profile being filled out its hard to tell whether you might be in one of the higher priced areas? I think in comparison to the southern MD area your price is average.
But in higher priced regions this could be a pretty good deal.

Thanks for your reply. They are both Hydro. From what I see in the brochure the 1431 is not a "v". What does the v mean anyway?

FAL1, Which translates to the economy model less frills.
Marketing doesn't like to say this is the cheap one, They would rather say this is the Value one , Which can be confusing to some. Value = better deal, but with less options, Another case where less is more(less letters ie:1431) and more is less (1431V)
Goes back to Auto industry when buying new vehicles had for example Ford F-150 then /Ford F-150 XLT usually the more behind it the more options it had. Not the case anymore,Tricky, tricky, tricky. Just My thoughts on the subject

For $300 I'd certainly go for the 1431!

FAL1,

You did not says what you would be using the tractor for and also the breakdown of the quotes. The devil is in the details.

I have a 1428v with a manual transmission. The big difference to me (with the exception of the tranny and the additional HP) is the fold down ROPS. The 1428v does not have the fold down ROPS and if memory serves, the 1431 does. Can make a big difference in the storage arrangements and also the field of use.

I think either way you will be happy with the choices.

Enjoy!

I got my 1431 with MF FEL, Turfs (loaded) with 60" 3 point finishing mower (also MF) for 19500 delivered (he will also pick up and return for free during the warranty period) plus tax of course. I believe the dealer only quoted me about 4500 for the BH. The only thing about the 1431 is that I can't get a cab for it. But searching the site I found out that it is a task I can do my self.

I just did and they don't have a listing for my model.
I tried Curtis and even Massey no luck.
Thanks. I think I will build my own.
