Tractor
Allis Chalmers D-17 Series IV
Hi folks. I'm about to purchase a 1428V with MF loader, 4 ft rotary cutter, box blade, and 6 ft finish mower. This compact tractor will replace a very tired Allis Chalmers D-17 Series IV. I've had the D-17 for ten years, prior to that my father in law owned and he purchased it used sometime in the mid to late 1970s. Anyway, this deal is about to go down and the total package price is $16,000 plus tax. Tractor is slightly used (12 hours). What do you guys think of the 1428 and what has your experience been? It looks a little small to me but I think it will get the job done. I will really be spoiled since my Allis doesn't have a loader and this one will be a real help around the 40 acres. Please let me know your MF experiences.

Regards,

Bob Printy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Congratulations. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I think that you will really like that tractor. It is not as large as some, but it has the same engine as the MF 1240 and the AGCO ST30. Keep us up to date on how it goes. BTW when do you get it?

Jerry,

I think I'll pick it up sometime next week. We plan on doing the paperwork tomorrow. I'll have to find a place to put it until I sell the Allis Chalmers.

Bob, your story sounds a little like mine. I went from '57 Allis Chalmers CA to my MF1455v with a MF loader. That was a big step up. I love my MF but I also miss my little CA.

I have had my Massey for 8 months and had no problems at all. Hope you are a happy as I have been.

Hey Bob,

Like Jerry said, you should be happy with this tractor. We have a 1433 hydro (really close in HP anyhow) with a working horse farm and the Massey has done everything and more than we asked of it. This is a great forum for all tractor owners, not to mention rural life in general, so welcome, enjoy and ask questions! These are a great bunch of folks!

Congratulations!! You are required by law to post pictures..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Tony,

Looks like it will be delivered next Monday. Pictures will follow. By the way how's the weather in NH. Grew up in Somersworth but joined the AF and retired here in Florida. Still have family up there and try and visit at least once a year. It was 75 degrees here today.

Hey Bob,

I think you will really like this tractor. I've had mine for about a month and it provides all the power I need for mowing to digging out rocks to grading.

I compared this to the NH TC24D and TC30 and the Kabota. This one beat them all in price and performance.

I'm glad I chose this tractor!

Enjoy!

Ooops, sorry, Bob...

Don't think I'm rude, but I occasionally have to set aside the laptop for a week or two, for various reasons, the least of which was finishing my six-stall run-in shed to keep those spoilt nags warm! We had a 7 degree wind chill today... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Wish I was you (warm), but I do love NH!

Bob,

I think you will really fall for this tractor. It packs a punch for its size. But then again I'm partial (I got my 1428v at the end of September). It has taken everything I have thrown at it from pulling large rocks to grading to mowing.

I can't comment on the price since you did not state if the implements were used or not.

I've had no problems with the tractor. I did find a typo in the owners manuel. It stated that the dashboard had a high beam indicator light when in fact the dealer stated that it did not. That's the only issue I found.

It's suppose to snow tomorrow so it's the first time I'll get to use the blade in the snow (kinda feels like Christmas). My wife thinks I'm nuts but wives don't understand tractors or fire trucks.

Congrats and enjoy!

similar story ,I needed a tractor for a raw land purchase (build a home),couldn't afford new at the time was looking with-out any knowledge, ended up luckily with a massey 135 deisel ,that thing is a tank! run forever uses no fuel! But I wanted to restore the beauty of this rascal ,plus with the old diamond turf tires (no chains for asphalt driveway)it wouldn't go anywhere in the snow. After scouring the posts of this site I along with my brother in law bought 2 new massey's 1 1433v with fel & 1 1428v w/grooming mower couldn't be more pleased (love the cup holder /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif)
