MF 150
Looking for some help. I recently bought a mf150 and a 6 ft brush hog. Im trying to adjust the cutter for level side to side. The lift link with the screw adjustment is bottomed out as short as it will go, but that side still hangs low. Looking closer I can see the lift arm on the right side is lower than the lift arm on the left when fully raised. I pulled the arm off and as I suspected, it's keyed to only go on one way. Parts manual shows this is a solid shaft for both sides. So how are the 2 arms not parallel? Are the arms not supposed to be even , or is the shaft somehow twisted? I can't see the shaft twisting without breaking . What gives??

Re: MFor 150 with uneven lift arms????

It is possible you have a replacement, right LIFTING ROD that is longer than the factory original.

With the right LIFTING ROD adjusted as short as possible the right (adjustable) LIFTING ROD and left non-adjustable LIFTING ROD should be very close to the same length overall. If the right LIFTING ROD is longer, there is your problem.

What you term lift arms are properly termed LOWER LINKS.

Searching the T-B-N archive can be very helpful for tractor newbies. But if you do not use correct nomenclature the archive will not yield useful information.

If you select GO ADVANCED, you can edit thread title for approximately thirty minutes.

Re: MFor 150 with uneven lift arms????

Actually I'm referring to the lift arms attached to the lift shaft that goes under the seat that rotate up and down and do the actual lifting. The adjustable leveling rod on the right is already 1/2" shorter than the non adjustable one on the left , but it still hangs down a couple inches more because the lift arms are not parallel on the shaft.

Thanks for the edit tip. I tried to edit the title but didn't try the advanced link.

Many of those arms slide on a splined shaft and can be adjusted up and down. Not sure about that tractor. Ed

The shaft that goes under the seat is called a "liftshaft". It has teeth on each end that mesh with teeth on the arms. When the arms come loose one or both arms can slip/jump a tooth on the liftshaft. I would suggest that you unbolt the arm and replace the arm one tooth higher so both lift arms are at the same height. Inspect the teeth on the arm to see if they are stripped, if not ,then you are good to go. If the teeth are stripped, then the arm will probably "jump" a tooth under a heavy weight. You may need to replace the arm.( I had to do that when I hit a sharp bump with a loose arm and a heavy load)

It's generally called the "rock shaft".

Pictures?

Agree with above, the rock shaft is usually splined, and can go on about any way. Possible someone had it off and re-installed it with it being a spline or two off

I'll try and get up a picture. I did pull off the right side and checked the shaft. It has a master spline, it's double width. This means it can only go on one way. I wish it was as easy as pulling the arm and rotating it up a tooth or so. I was wondering if they were un-even by design, that was the question. I guess I'll be pulling both arms off and possibly pulling the the cover off to get the shaft out to see what's up. I was hoping someone with experience on this model may have seen something like this before. I'll pull it and post back.

Sorry have not paid attention to these in a while when using my brothers Massey but, could it be installed backwards? The inside side is the outside side? Go back to the first questions or thought maybe the arm is wrong. Look at the carefully at both of them and see if they look same other than one bent to the left and one to the right. Think have all that right.
