Hi All,

Next little project for us is fab & Install steps on our 1523. We are thinking of welding some flat bar, and painting it, and then bolting it on, but wondered what others have used.

Also, any pics of mounting them are welcome from all colours, especially MF 1500 series owners.

Hi there I have a JD 2320, I also wanted a step, so I looked around and found one that was on a larger ag tractor, it is all made of stamped steel with teeth on the tread steps, so that if your feet are muddy or you are blowing snow it is not slippery, its is about 15 inches long and 8 inches wide, best of all its only about 25$ at your local John Deere Dealer. I am not sure of the part number but If you want I can find out. My buddy owns a Kubota and is alway giving me a hard time about my driving a green machine. But after looking at my step, he went out and bought 2 for himself, and sandblasted them to rough them up then painted then orange. You can't build this step for the money and time involved. You might have to fabricate a way to mount it but that should not be a problem....Let me know!

I actually removed the right-hand step from my Branson. I never use it due to the configuration of the operator's platform, and the loader controls (as a big-guy, I don't contort too well).

I'm mounting a .50 cal ammo box in it's place as my tractor tool-box. The opposite step flexed a bit when I stepped on it, so I welded a piece of angle from it back to the plate holding the fuel tank for extra support, and dabbed a bit of Herculiner on the metal between the step and the rubber platform mat, for added slip resistance.

I don't miss the right-hand step, but wouldn't want a tractor without any...

If you could get that part#, that would be appreciated.

I haven't built any tractor steps, as mine all have some sort of factory steps. I did get a request from my sister, who never asks for anything, if I could make it easier for her to get into her van. I had a couple left overs from when the shop I worked at made fire engine parts, so I modified one, added an aluminum 2x2 and a little bit of welding and sent it to her. I did tell her to purchase a lock so it didn't disappear, being made out of solid aluminum. Attached picture for your viewing.

I used 2"X1/4" flat hot roll steel. Bolted to tractor floor board. Made one
for each side. Used actyene torch to heat metal for bending. Would
post picture, but don't know how. Pretty easy to make.
