Massey Ferguson 1529
OK i just purchased a 2010 (i think from paperwork it might be a 2008) Massey Ferguson 1529 tractor with backhoe and loader. We used it early today then while washing it off we decided to remove the backhoe to familiarize our selves with the process. After we got it off we could not get the 3 point hitch arms to lower by moving the handle. after a little investigation we found that there is a flow valve mounted under seat by my feet that you can turn to keep the arms up and they wouldn't respond to lever for transport or something like that. After turning the nob the arms did go down and now wont move up. They are also floppy we can pull them up by hand and let them go and they will drop down. also while trying to figure out the issue we found that we cant get the PTO shaft to spin. we engage the PTO with the lever then push the button down and turn to on and nothing. i am pretty sure the button works cause first few tries the tractor stalled out. Came to figure out cause no one was sitting in seat. I listed both problems in the same thread just in case they have a common cause. The tractor only has 350 hours on it and other than that seems to work great. any ideas and help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for the help.

Boy, I don't want to sound negative but I have a 1531 from the same era and it is a piece of junk. I have had problems, problems, and more problems with the front end, pto and the the point hitch. I hope not, but it may be a good luck and God be with you scenario. Agco is not worth 3 cents when it comes to standing behind their equipment. That being said was there any big bang or grinding noise. My pto made a lot of noise. I knew it had big problems, 5,500 dollars worth of problems. And 12 month later I got the same mess. Make sure your pto lever is all the way back. When you turn the little yellow knob, make sure you have the engine at an idle. The yellow knob is some kind of electro magnetic switch which may have screwed up. One other thing you may check is, you may have a front pto to run a belly mower. There should be a lever between you legs that engages the front pto. I would definitely check that lever. As for the 3 point arms I had bushinvs put in mine three different times and I am still having trouble. Mine goes up, but won't stay up without turning the knob between your legs. You said you took a back hoe off. I have not been around a back hoe, but I wonder if it has something to do the hydraulics and the way the run the back hoe. I hope this helps some how. Good Luck.

Do you have a manual? Are there any valves that redirects oil to the backhoe?

Hey one more thing I thought about. The knob between your leg that you turned to lower the three point lift, did you turn it all the way counter clock way? If so, try turning the knob clock way and see if that does the trick. If that works then back it off a couple turns. That "knob" controld the flow rate. Thus turned all the way clock ways it locks the 3 point arms up. As you turn the "knob" counter clock ways that will allow the 3 point arms arms to go down. The more counter clock ways that you turn the knob. It maybe possible (I really don't know for sure) that the hydraulic oil is bypassing through the Knob you turned. This may cause a situation where you don't have enough hydraulic pressure to raise the arms. First chance I get I'll fiddel with my 1531 and see what I can come up with.
