Ok well after having my Leinbach L-7200 post hole digger I got "months" ago I thought I should play with it on the tractor and see how it works. So I have it set up on the tractor with a 9" bit and I start to see what she is all about.

Problem 1... I have to cut the guard at the point where the bit bolts up to the gear box because it hits the guard. I guess this bit goes up more then most?

Problem 2 (biggest problem in my eyes)... The rod you use to keep the bit level works great "until" the bit starts to hit the ground, after that there is just no way I can keep the rod on if I want the bit to stay level.

See photo above and next photo in post below, sorry they are kind of dark.

Do I have something set up wrong, Do I need to use the rod, Will the tractor keep it level and so on? Any help?

This picture shows the digger being down to the point of how deep I would like a hole. I just don't see how I could use the rod, unless I get off the tractor and move the rod "under" the 3pt. But there just isn't anyway I could hold that rod being in the seat. Again any help

Steve, I have a Leinbach 7300 (no rod) that I use on my MF1533. It mounted up with no problems at all. The bit stays almost perfectly straight when it digs becaquse of the way the gearbox assembly mounts on the boom. The only time it won't run straight is if I hit large root or rock. I didn't have to modify my PTO shaft or anything. John

Thanks for the reply John... Is the 7200 and the 7300 more or less the same? Is it that the rod is just gone on the 7300 or is there other things different? Sorry my pics are not the best, lol sun was to hot today to park it out in the open for better light.

Anyhow I'll look on the net for the 7300 and see if I can find some pictures.

Um Ok wow, did this thing change or what, this is the "L8000/L9000", I can't find 7000s anywhere.

I did find a 7300 picture, but it looks the same to me "with" the rod, but what I saw is that they took the black bracket and put it to the holes closest to the gear box and have the rod "under" that bracket.

@mrSteve

The guide handle is really only good for attempting to line-up or level out the auger before you begin digging as their mounted facing toward the driver. Since the auger should hang level anyway, they don't do very much.

Many, will reverse the handle and have someone try to handle it from behind while the operator stays on the tractor. This works somewhat, but once the auger gets very far in the ground your ability to control dimishes rapidly....unless you want to inch the tractor back/forward slightly to control it's angle.

Surely, if they can put a auto-leveler on a front loader then someone somewhere has done the same for a post-hole digger. If not, I'd like to see it done....

Thanks for the help Joe... I know what you mean by moving the handle. We used someones setup to do our post and you "had" to have someone hold that handle while someone drop the digger, that thing was so old it would jump all over the place.

I guess I just have to play with it and see how it goes. I was just making sure I wasn't being a "dumb butt" and not seeing something I should to make this handle work right.

Steve, your setup looks more or less the same as mine. The boom looks identical. I'm going out to my tractor in a few minutes, the Lienbach is on it now. I'll look and see what hole in the boom I mounted the yolk part in and also see what hole I'm using for the top link. John

Thats great of you, thanks.

My top link is in the lowest hole (closest to the PTO). I guess that part could have to do with how long the bit is to clear the ground when fully up.

About the top link, did you use anything to stop that side to side movement, like some type of bushing or just let it move side to side?

I looked at mine and the boom is attached in the bottom most top link mounting hole. The boom has seven holes in it where you can attach the link that goes to the lower links. Mine is bolted to the third hole when counting from the boom end closest to the tractor. My boom looks like the one in your picture but it does have L-7300 painted on it. I don't know if that's because it's only for the L-7300 model or if that's just where they put the model number. John
