Heres my question, when my tractor is in neutral should i still depress the clutch to start her up? She starts either way and to be honest the first few times i started this new tractor it was in neutral and i just turned the key and she started just fine but i have seen where people will still depress the clutch. Whats the correct method. My prior 1531 hydro didnt have a clutch, this 1739e does. I know for changing the speed selector, changing to 4 wheel drive, engaging the pto i need to depress the clutch but for startup?

It's probably by habit that most people are use to when they have a clutch but If it's not in gear the tractor should start without the clutch as you say it does..

I'm not a gear shift guy but I can't imagine it would hurt anything. It's in neutral, if you try to start it in gear without depressing the clutch I would think it would do nothing.. What does your manual say for starting..

No it wont start if selector is in gear that i know. I looked over the manual. And it doesnt address to use the clutch to start. I just saw some youtube videos where the person depressed the clutch even when in neutral. But like you said probably just out of habit. I too cant see how starting in neutral without depressing the clutch would hurt anything. Just wanted to check here for input.

If it's a gear drive, press the clutch so the gears don't grind. If it's hydrostatic, it doesn't matter. The gears will only grind if you are pressing the directional pedal while trying to shift.

Clutch, no clutch should not make difference as long a trans shift (safety) interlock will only allow starting in neutral....

Many cars like my JEEP and wifes Honda will not start unless clutch is depressed, BUT will start with trans (gear shift) in any gear....

Old habits of depressing clutch still overrides "must be in neutral" safety switch....

But my hydrostatic drive MF CG1715 has to be in neutral or else no start....
