hi all,

just bought MF 245, was sitting at farm, from last two 2 year. Put new starter, alternator. Two things I need help with??

First Alternator/Fan belt broke :(, need to change anyways, need help with that as it has front loader.

Second thing : Rear axle : its sitting on blocks as I sent rims for sand blast while putting new tires on it. I started the tractor and did tried all different gears low and high: kinda weird but only right axle responds very well and left seems to struggling in 3 gear and won't respond at all in any other gear???

I have not flushed tranny or hydraulics yet, as kinda in test mode. but 3pt hitch responds well and loader working good.

please Advise!

thanks

Fan belt should be easy enough so long as there's not a front mounted hydralic pump other then that you'll just have to work around the loader unless its a quick attach then remove the loader for easier access. As for the axle not turning free could be that the brake is sticking caused by a number of things eg: foot pedal linkage binding, rusted shoes from lack of use, brake adjusted to tight on that side.Thats the thing if its been sitting for that length of time moisture can cause all sorts of things not work properly,so maybe a bit of seat time will clear some problems up.One thing you can do is before doing to much running of the trans etc;especially if its been sitting for awhile is to loosen the oil drain plug on the trans just far enough to let a bit of oil out the trick here is that water sits on the bottom so if there's any water in the trans etc it'll drain out first as water is heavier then oil. LEFT BRAKE IS DRAGING.SPLIT THE BRAKE PEDAL AN SLOW THE RITE SIDE.ONCE YOU GET THE WHEELS ON YOU SHOULD BE FINE. DO THE SAME TEST DRIVING IT. YOU COULD PULL THE DRUMS NOW AND TRY IT.

it has front mounted hydraulic pump for loader, which makes it bit harder, never ever had anything like that before. loader arms I can work around but kinda don't know where to start with hydraulic pump? hopefully I will put it back together. Sudn't be that hard but like I said kinda hesitating as haven't done before.

any advise or work arounds to make job easier will help!

Also Just bought regular belt with same size or should I buy any speciality belt that might has longer life??

thanks guys :)

I'am not sure but the pump once unbolted from the front I'am pretty sure some had a splined shaft and others had to be unbolted from the tractor dampenning pulley and it'll move ahead far enough to allow you to change the belt.Just take your time keep track of where things fit and you'll be fine.As always Larry.:D

hi there,

thanks all for your help. got belt back on. All I had to do is, take front grill off, unbolt pump and unbolt spindle shaft plate from pulley and pull it out and push the belt through :)

but now hydraulics, steering and loader are not working but was working before. but, also 3pt hitch goes up and down. oil pressure meter needle is in yellow, I guess I need to add more hydraulic fluid? or is it something else???

thanks

what type of engine oil should I use considering winter and also what type of tranny/hydraulic fluid (assuming both are same) while I am thinking to do complete flush.

thanks
