I just picked up this disc and I think I'm going to really like it. I've got some questions. Is there manual anywhere on-line or otherwise?
This disc has been setting outside for a few years and the model tag is painted over yet legible. It's got some rust, one disc with a 2" square chunk out of it, the discs measure 17.5", one loose scraper, lots of grease/dirt build up around the bearings, overall in pretty good shape. (as far as I know)
I knocked some off the heavy dirt and grease of with a power washer. I greased the boxes and used 1+ tubes of grease. Is that typical? I noticed the grease pushed out some water (probably from the power washing). Additionally I didn't see any old grease come out and the new grease flowed from beneath the axle. Any thing there to lookout for?
On each gang there is a bar that the scrapers are mounted to. All of theses bars are loosely mounted. Is this right?
My cat2 top-link will not fit the connection point on the disc. The outer diameter of the top-link end piece is too great and I cannot aline the holes. A friend suggested a short piece of chain to replace the top-link. Is this satisfactory? Or is a solid top-link required to keep disc level and maintain better contact?
The gangs are connected to the "frame" with pivot balls. Any maintenance/lubricant recommendations for these spots?
The tag says model 25 and has a serial number. Can I look up the serial number?
Has anyone used this disc with a quick hitch? Has anyone modified the disc to use with a cat2 Speeco/ I-Hitch style?
Lastly, has anyone been using this style disc for food plots and new ground? I'm curious what you're pulling it with and what kind of soil are you in and what kind of results you've gotten? I'm planning on pulling mine with a JD1250 MFWD. On good authority I have plenty of tractor for this disc.
Looking forward to getting into the dirt. Which at this point is really, really DRY! IF you have too much rain, please wish it on us.
