I'm new to the site so this has probably been discussed already (couldn't find on a search though).

The 3pt hitch will not stay up when the clutch is depressed or the tractor is turned off, no matter what position the levers are in. My shop manual should be arriving any day now but any thoughts on this would be great.

You have a 2-stage clutch. The lower stage is the pto and hydraulics. You don't need to depress the clutch completely to operate the transmission. When you do depress the clutch through that second stage, you shut down the hydraulic pump. That's when the lift drops.

Now, on the subject of the lift dropping while shut off. You'll be hard pressed to find any old Masseys (or quite a few other brands also) that DON'T drop. My question is, why would you need it to stay up? It's not a good idea to leave an implement raised while the tractor is shut off (and unattended)

I understand the two stage clutch and how it operates and yes it's ok if the hitch lowers when I turn off the engine but it has never dropped that fast before. With a 5' mower on the 3pt hitch it would take hrs for it to drop down, now it takes less than a minute.
