Looked at a 1978 MF 275 with 1833 hours on the hour meter today. Seller "forgot" to tell me that the PTO shaft spins even when the PTO is not engaged. Not sure that if I did something wrong, but the rear lift arms also seemed slow and week. Maybe I didn't set the lift controls properly. Anyway, I passed on the tractor since the seller didn't bring up the PTO spinning before I drove 50 miles to look at the tractor. Is this normal on an older tractor or a sign of some internal issue?
One of the rear spin out wheels had rusted through. The other one I guess was headed in same direction. Seller said a new rim would be $388 and a new tire $675. If it was a good tractor, why would the seller let it sit and let the rims rust out?
