I'm thinking about getting a finish mower for my 1960 35 Diesel Deluxe. My biggest concern is the rib steering tires "roll" the grass and when turning make lawn grass ugly. It's always the tire on the outside of the turn as it gets a little more angle than the inside. Anyone on here running something like a treaded car tire on the front to fix this?

I've seen countless 2wd tractors running regular car tires over the years. If you have a loader on the front of your machine, you may want to be wary of the load rating of the tires to be sure they can handle the weight with a full bucket. Likewise, you can probably find turf tires for the front that are the correct diameter for your 35, which would likely minimize damage to the lawn as you make sharper corners.

Lewt me relate this to you...

A few years back I drove my FWA Kubota M9 across my lawn beside the house, I had new fence posts in the bucket, I was putting up a new fence on the east side of the house and I rolled over the lid to the septic tank. When the rear right tire got over the tank, the lid broke and suddenly half my wheel was in the tank and in the poo too. Put in four wheel and drove out but had to cast a new lid and install it plus remove the broken one.

Lesson learned, don't drive a tractor on the lawn.

Crappy lid.

My 5000 ford has been all over my tank lid toting a 10' mower.

A ford 950 is my usual mower.

Your lid had a crack, inclusion or some other flaw, wasn't deep enough or just bad luck day.

Demo'ed a single piece cast tank about eight months ago, top was about 5" with rebar, sides were about 2". Required about 3 hours with a heavy electric jackhammer to bust up the top, sides were easy after that, pushed them in with the fel bucket. I never drove over it but I don't think it was likely to break.
Tractor does tend to compact the lawn a bit where I drive over it.

I think some places just make junkier lids than others. I saw a telehandler wheel go thru one, but not until its boom was out and loaded with son cargo.. The lid did take alot before going. Bit was shallow too, but the th was parked on it for an extended time lifting and lowering, not a 1 second drive over etc..

It has a new one now. 1/2" alloy plate with t access manholes and the bottomside coated with asphaltic paint. Around here you don't want to be replacing a septic tank or drain field. It was weak and I forgot about it. I was reminded real quick. The Kubby weighs around 9500 pounds.
