I was looking on Craig's list and found a MF 35 for sale for $1,500 and emailed the seller with my questions...here is the response from him..anyone have any idea as to what the cost would be to bring this tractor into shape or if it is a good price. I can handle the maintenance on my tractors but when it comes to splitting them for a clutch or repairing the power steering I would have to have a mechanic do that..Thanks...

Hello, Yes the tractor is in running, the 3pt hitch works fine. the bad is the clutch is worn out i have it adjusted all the way to put it in gear. the power sterring does not work. it has no tach and other gauges do not work. the tires are at about 20%. But if you just using to bushhog a open fileld in crcles she runs fine for that.If you want to discuss in more details are come look at it yourself please give me a call

If it has the Perkins Diesel engine it is a good deal, even with the repair of the clutch and th powersteering (I am wondering if it has one, cause it has not been common on tractors of this size).

If I was overthere I would buy if after a closer look at it.

It doesn't sound like a worn out clutch---more like a clutch release problem.
All "wornout" clutches i have dealt with, will not transfer power--they slip!
Power steering could be a number of possibilities.
If I wasn't qualified to thoroughly check the tractor out, I would hire a compitent person to attend me.
Could be a bargin and could be a nightmare:confused:

If it is a diesel, I don't see how you could go wrong. Are you sure it has power steering? Ken Sweet

Walk away from that loser.
Clutch parts alone will be $600 or so (at least that's what I'll cost me when I split my 1964 MF135 diesel and replace the clutch).

And you don't want to run a tractor without a working oil pressure gauge.

Depending on what is wrong with the power steering it can be either really cheap to fix or really expensive to fix. My best friends broke a few years ago and he finally got around to fixing it this spring. The parts alone were aver $400. He did the labor himself. The clutch will be another few hundred in parts.

If it came out with no Tach, It is probably a "35 Special" and most of those had no PS or 2 stage clutch? We can supply single stage clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing for around $400-$450 + shipping. Depends on what you find when you get in there? Ken Sweet

The sheet metal looks good. The rims look good. It has the right engine. If a clutch job gets it running. The price can't be far off when a 8N Ford would bring around those $ and not be half the tractor. Ken Sweet

That one looks pretty much like the TO35 my hunt club bought last year for $1000. Ours runs ok, the clutch, gears, and PTO are good. The biggest problem we are having with it is the lift works sometimes, and sometimes it don't work. We are gonna get serious with it in the next couple weeks and see if we can tell what's going on with it. Ours didn't have PS so one less thing to go wrong lol.

The one you found for $1500 sounds like it could be an ok deal for the mechanically inclined, but for someone not knowing much about tearing into tractors the smart thing would be to pass on it. There are just too many others out there for sale that need less work for not too much more money. Be patient and you will find one.
