MF 35 + Ferguson TO 30
The above tractor is a new purchase and has low hours. It was in storage for about 20 years. I am in the process of rewiring or repairing current wires. Grounds need cleaning due to non usage. The problem is the charging system. If I take off the wires from the generator and hook up a multi meter I get no reading. The amp gauge reads 0. I took the cover off the regulator. One set of points look okay and the other looks burnt. When I took the generator to the auto parts for checking it read a voltage output that was inconsistent. Fluctuation between 9 and 13 volts. It was suggested I take it apart and clean the armature and free up the brush holder and springs which I did. One brush assembly was partially frozen. I am going to take the generator back to the auto parts store for rechecking but I should have gotten a reading on the tractor. Any Suggestions??

Did you polarize the generator after you hooked it up?
You really should do this EVERY-TIME you remove it from the system...

To polarize a generator, make a short jumper wire to short between the battery (b or bat) and generator (g or gen) lugs on the voltage regulator. Only a split-second or a spark is required, so just tap your jumper wire onto the lugs and pull them right back off.

If the contacts are not destroyed in the regulator they should clean up. KennyV
