HAS ANYBODY SEEN ANY PRICES FOR MF 400 SERIES TRACTORS? A DEALER IN SOUTHWEST IN. QUOTED ME 19.7K FOR A 451, 4WD TRACTOR ONLY.

Last year you could find Massey pricing on the MN DOT website, but not this year. I do not know of any Massey dealers that post prices on the internet.

BER.... a little far from home but Sun Ray Tractor here in Florida has pricing on the internet on 400 series tractors. I've priced the 451 4WD at about 4 local dealers in N. Fl & S. GA and all were around $18,000 for just the tractor and the standard trans. With shuttle shift it added about anothe $1m.

We havea 451 bought last fall. I can't imagine not having an independent PTO. Having to stop and use the clutch every time you need to stop the PTO is a lot more work.
I can't remember the exact price, but it was about $28K including the FEL. It has a shuttle, 4wd, and the independent PTO. Not sure what else it has that would add to the price.

I am love our 35 with live PTO. It has a 2 stage clutch, so you can shift the PTO out on the go with out stopping the tractor. I could probably get used to a independant PTO!!

Does the 14.7 ft. turning radius cause any problems for you on your 451? My current 1235 has a 10 ft. turning radius. I reallize the 451 is much more tractor, but the 461 has a much better turning radius and more power. I guess that's related to the limited slip on the 451. Does the power steering work well when using the FEL on your 451? Does the sheet metal vibrate or rattle? Does the FEL mounting/ frame cause any serviceability problems? I'm contemplating moving up to a larger tractor and the 451 looks about right for my planned usage, but JD has some prospects too.

BER - let me put it this way. When we were shopping, the dealer had me try a 1455 (which I think is larger than a 1200series??). It had the same hp but in comparison to the 451, it felt like a lawn mower. It was really nimble, and turned on a dime. However, I wanted a tractor that would easily and safely pull my hay equipment around my hilly farm. The 1455 was NOT that tractor. The turning radius is less of an issue, I think, than the size difference (unless I'm wrong about your tractor and it is larger than the 1455).
The power steering is great (although we were upgrading from a 1958 tractor without that feature!), and the FEL does not seem to to get in the way - not sure I understand your question about PS and the FEL. We've not had to, or wanted to, remove the loader, nor did I drive the tractor much without it on.
We didn't try the 461 - too much for what we needed and we didn't want to spend the extra money. Also they didn't have one for us to try. Interesting that it turns tighter, though. I haven't quite figured out when the LSD would be an easier option for traction than just putting it into 4WD.
The only thing that vibrates and annoys me is the SMV sign.
