mf 40b front wheel studs

I have a mf 40b, one of the front wheels have the threads for the wheel bolts stripped out of the hub. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever possibly drilled the hub holes to fit a wheel stud with a nut. this would be cheaper than changing the whole hub if it would work. thanks in advance for any help. 01hunter570 also if so what size hole drilled and what type wheel stud?

On my MF40 loader I find the Left wheel nuts come loose frequently. I don't want to tighten them excessively because their usable strength is reduced. I recently had to renew all six threaded studs and nuts - they were not at all expensive, I'd rather have new ones there in place of damaged ones at that price. Don't drill holes out or further damage hubs ... just fix it properly. There are several very similar length studs available to suit many models of tractor, and any tractor parts outlet will stock them - even Agco.

thank you for your response PatricS2222. if the hub was equipped with the stud and nut you describe, you are coirrect it would be a simple fix drive out the old studs and put new ones in. the tractor I have is equipped with wheel bolts that go thru the wheel and the hub has threads in it that the bolts screw into. I would like to change it over to the type you describe with the stud and nut. I also read your post on your family, glad to hear of the good news. Hi 01Hunter, thank you for your kind remarks with regard to Jennifer's illness and recuperation. She is currently in New Zealand competing in the Oceania Championships. I shall put another post in the thread as soon as her event has been decided.
It sounds like MF felt it was too convenient having replaceable studs as were on the earlier models. Your situation reminds me of how at work we frequently find damaged wheel bolt threads on MB and other Euro vehicles after owners have cross-threaded them. We usually can repair them with heli-coil thread repair inserts. This method may be an option for you - ensure they are square to the hub surface. Alternatively, drilling them and inserting studs as per the earlier version.
Can you advise me what is the wheel bolt thread diameter? It should be 1/2". Tomorrow I shall measure the serrated shank of a spare stud and we then determine whether the hub flange needs to be drilled to accept a set of press-in studs.
