Thinking of buying this one but here's the story... Industrial (yellow) MF50 w/ loader and PTO. Seller says he bought it at an auction. He first noticed one injector line was brazed shut so he replaced that. I guess the auctioneers did that cause it was cracked and they wanted to run the tractor for preview?? After running a little he found diesel in the oil the next day. He replaced the lift pump and tested all injectors (tested good twice). Changed oil, ran it, next day diesel in oil again. Shop told him it's the injector pump leaking into the crankcase. He also said engine misfires on one cylinder and has some white exhaust. I'm trying to get up to speed on injector pump troubleshooting, but won't attempt rebuild myself. A standard injector pump rebuild would still be worth his asking price, but could the pump be ruined from running it with one injector line plugged? I haven't looked at it yet, plan to see it this Saturday. Anything else to check for?

Compression test on all cylinders would be a good thing to do, imho.

I was thinking the same thing Kebo. Never did a compression test on a diesel before, will have to read up on technique plus see if my tester will go that high. With no spark plugs to pull out, what do I remove? Glow plugs? Do I remove all at once then crank, or one at a time? How to I keep engine from starting during test?

The seal on an injector pump of that vintage would not be unusual to be leaking. Now some of the other other cob jobs, I'd be worried!

Harbor freight sells a compression tester that I bought for about 20 a few years back which will work for diesels and many times we are in the glow plug holes.

From what you are describing, I would not want to put much more than $2000-$2500 in a tractor with those problems. Less would be better. Ken Sweet
