MF 6180 4X4
Hi All, I am a new member to this forum and have also recently bought a second hand MF 6180 tractor with 6000 hrs, my problem is it does not stay in 4X4 unless I hold the switch down, the rear differential lock stays on when the button is pressed and only dis-engages when pressed again. Is it normal for the 4x4 to disengage if not constantly pressed. I would appreciate any help or advice on this issue.
Thanks

I'm not 100% sure so get more opinions before taking it to the bank. I haven't worked on any of the bigger old stuff. More 4200 & 5400's.

The Diff lock will need to be turned on & off as you mention you do. Push to use and again to release.

The 4WD is normally in the active position. Like when not running. That would be it's default so to say. Something has to change to put it in 2wd. Hydraulic pressure I would say. So when it's running, the hydraulic pressure opens the 4wd coupler & you're in 2wd.

If it stays on while you hold the switch, I would think There is a relay or something simple not working to keep it in.

I'll stop, I think I confused myself now.

I have a 1528 and it just started having the same problem. Normally it stays in 4x4 by it self, but now when I put the transmission in medium (not low not high) the 4x4 pops out. I also have noted that the diff lock is staying on. The tractor is just five years and it never did it before. It doesn't seem to do it in low or high. When you move the transmission linkage you can see the 4x4 linkage move out of place.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

Can anyone help with this one! It pops out of 4x4 all the time now! Move the low hi selector and the 4x4 adjuster moves, they do share the same pivot shaft

Thanks

Does it have the (Auto 4x4) feature where it knocks out the 4x4 when the 3pt is raised for turning on headland ?

Seems like the shaft is seized, or starting to. Maybe it needs to be taken apart, cleaned & lubed.
