I'm trying to sort out if I have the right tach cable hookup for a block connected tach drive on a 1959 MF65 Diesel. IMG_0827.JPGTachCable.jpgTachDrive.jpg

Pictures show the cable end, the drive gear inside and the block connection. It seems I'm missing a piece to connect the cable to the drive. My closest Agco dealer has been rtying w/o success to help. Can anybody with a MF 65 diesel help?

Are there external threads on the four bolt block adapter? If not you may need one from the AD4.203 used in the late 65 and all US 165 models. On my 165 the cable case threads right on the adapter.

That part is threaded. Does the square internal cable just connect to the drive gear that's inside?

On my 165 the cable is driven by the cam, think it has a pressed in drive for the cable.

Any way you ca post a picture of the "drive" that connects to the cable end? I installed a different cable yesterday that had a different and longer inside cable. The internal cable reached all the way to the slotted drive and a hole in the center of that drive. It only worked for about 30 min, than stopped working.

Not able to do the photo thing, how hard does the tach head turn? It must turn easily or the drive will not hold up.

Thats a good question and something I did not think of. I tried to sping the cable by disconnecting it from the engine and could not spin it. I'll take off the tach tomorrow and see what I can do. Thanks Dieseltech.

The tach was the problem. Took it apart and found teeth mission the gear.
