I have been looking for a Massey Ferguson model #25 disc and stumbled across a model #68 disc in the 10 foot size. I read somewhere that the #68 was a big brother to the #25 (makes sense as they look a lot alike) and that it was made for the MF 85 tractor. My tractor is an MF 65 and I am wondering whether anyone can tell me if the #68 disk would be an okay match for it. Also, any idea what the weight of the #68 might be?

Thanks in advance.

I think you may have answered your own question.

I am not that familiar with the 65 and the 85 but if there is as much difference between the two as there is between a 265 and a 285 then I would think the disk is to big for a 65.

Duffster, thanks for your response. I am not familiar with either the 265 or the 285, but TractorData.com lists only 11 hp difference between the 65 and the 85, while there is 20 hp between the 265 and 285. Plus, I understand that a 150, which has 33 drawbar hp, can handle a 10 foot version of the #25 disc. The 65 has 44 drawbar hp and weighs about the same as the 150 (mine has filled tires and a mid-mount sickle bar mower to help with the traction also). All of this seems to indicate that the 65 might have a fair shot at handling the #68 disc, but numbers on paper don't necessarily mean much compared to real world experience and I have none with the #68 disc. Thanks again for your reply.

I have pulled a 7 ft #25 with a 150 MF and that was all it wanted. Ken Sweet

Ken, you are right. After reading your post, I got a hold of the guy who told me about discing with the 10 foot #25 on the MF 150 and was told that (1) he only used it a few times for discing cornstalks, (2) that it really could not handle anything else, and (3) it made the front end way too light to have it anywhere near hills -- not quite the impression I had been originally left with. Okay, I learned my lesson: Always check the story behind the story before making public comments.

So, it looks like the answer is that the #68 disc is not a good option for the MF 65. Back to looking for a #25, I guess. Too bad, too, as the #68 is in usable shape. Ah, well, such is life.

Thanks, again, to both of you for your replies.
