That's awesome Tim! I only wish I'd known you before I sold the old girl....at least it looks like the service I did won't be wasted (new trans pump, fluids, etc). You rock!

Tim, first off welcome to TBN - second, you made me remember how much I miss my old Oliver dozer.

One observation though - do you have anything that gives specs on track tension - I ask because in all Ive seen, you want SOME slack so you don't over-tension the tracks, which causes rollers/track links to wear faster, maybe even break.

My little Oliver was so short-coupled that there were NO upper rollers, and the spec on that one was to lay a 2x4 across the tracks between front and rear cog wheels and adjust tension for 1-1/2 to 2" gap at the center. Larger ones same idea, but of course the shorter span between supports would lessen the gap.

I just had to update this thread because it's too funny not to. I wasn't able to sort out the transmission issue, and sold the machine to a friend who was sure he could get it moving. Turns out he wasn't able to solve the issue either, and sold it to Tim who posted here, and because he's a true professional, he got it working. I understand he blocked it up, had the engine running and the tranny in gear while he was underneath disconnecting transmission lines until he figured out where the problem was....sounds scary!

Tim cleaned up a few other things...got it to stop wet stacking, added a ROPs and a few other details, then sold it for something like $4,500 or $5,000 which is honestly a fair price for a working small dozer. It turns out the person who bought it from Tim lives just a few minutes from me....I don't know him, but he painted it, and listed it on Craigslist for something like $9K months ago. Every couple of weeks I would check back just out of curiosity to see if it had sold, or if the price had changed. Today I checked and noticed that he took a screen capture of the data plate picture I posted in this thread, and added that to the CL ad....too funny! It appears the price is down to $7,800 and I think it's going to be quite a bit lower than that before it sells, but I am glad the machine is back up and running, and won't wind up in the scrap pile just yet. Free bump for the seller...

It looks like Tim only posted three times, and hasn't been here in years. You might want to try the number he listed above.

I was told he put the machine on blocks, put it in gear, put the shuttle in forward, and got underneath and started disconnecting tranny lines until he found the one that went to the trans brake which let the tracks move....something along those lines. This model had a transmission which used fluid pressure to release the trans brake so that when the shuttle shift was in neutral, the brake was applied. I know for sure that the tracks were locked because I pushed it with an 18,000lb backhoe to put it on a trailer and the tracks never moved.
