MF GC2400
Hello,

I have a GC2400 that I purchased new 11/09 with approximately 240 hours. Today while snowblowing I noticed that I have lost forward drive from the rear wheels while on an steep incline. While trying to pull back up the incline the hydrostatic drive was not going into relief but the rear wheels were not spinning. When I engaged the four wheel drive I was able to climb the incline back to the level but most of the traction came from the front wheels. Which the front wheels still feel like they have good pulling power when going forward. While using reverse I still had good power and was able to break the rear wheels loose while blowing snow if the drifts got too deep. My tractor was able to climb a shallow incline without using the four wheel drive but it does not feel like it has the power that it used to.

Other things to note: I do not remember ever hearing any loud bangs or something that would give me any indication something went wrong. I have checked the fluid level and that looks to be full. The last time the hydraulic fluid was changed was at the 50 hour service which was the spring of 2010. The manual does not state a time limit on the hydraulic fluid just after the first 50 hour service it should be done every 300 hours afterwards. I do not see anything physically wrong on any of the linkages but with it being so cold out I was only able to look for a few minuets. I have been letting it warm up for 15-20 minuets before I start clearing snow with it due to the very cold temperatures in my area for the past month. I currently have an inquiry email in with my dealer but wanted to check with the people here to see if anyone had any ideas what could have happened.

Thank you for your time and any insight that you may have towards my issue.

Mike

We're you in Low or High? If in High then the cold fluid may not allow the pump to build the pressure needed.

I was in low gear but I did not try high gear

Sorry, that is a new one.

Please let us know what you find out.

It's a long shot but make sure the rim isn't spinning inside the tire. It happens every once and a while if the pressure gets low.

Hmmm I will have to take a look at that MFRED thank you for the suggestion - If that is not the issue then it will be a little while before I can get it to the dealer because as long as it is snowing I will need the tractor. Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

One think that I find fascinating about these tractors is the more weight the better when plowing. My tractor is almost useless without the weight of the BH on it. Without enough weight in the back the front wheels maybe getting all the power from the pump which is why when the front break traction first. I get these symptoms when I forget the transmission is in hi instead of low so maybe check the linkage?

That is true with any tractor. I have a Bolens 600 lawn tractor, that can push mountains of snow.

It does so, after having 200+ lbs. of weight added to it.

I'm interested in the responses this thread generates. The OP describes a similar condition to what I experienced yesterday with my 2013 MF 1526 HST.

When plowing in low range, the front wheels seem to be doing 80-90% of the work. Even when I stand on the diff-lock for more traction I get very little help from the rear wheels. As an experiment, I shifted out of 4WD and, still in low range, I couldn't even spin the rear tires. I was running about 2,000 RPM and the engine didn't bog, either.

Apologies to the OP, but it sounds like a problem very similar to mine.

MFRED you were right my right rear rim was spinning in the tire. I had added air earlier in the winter and must have got some snow in the valve because a small piece of ice fell out when I took the cap off. Everything is back to normal with my tractor sorry this took so long I finally had someone that could watch while I was driving.

Once again thank you so much for your responses
