MF model 39 Planter

Hi Folks ..... New to the forum here .... Im considering buying a mod 39 planter and I thought I'd check in and see if there were any.... really good or really bad things about them.

Also, does anyone know what year this planter was built. I did find a complete parts manual for this planter from 1982 ? .... and ..... I had a MF dealer tell me that the 37 +39 was made in 1985 ? Looks like a 70's machine to me. Any info would be a great help ;-)

They are good planters. The worst problem that I dislike about them is the red paint peeling off the galvanized hopper. Thee good thing about them is you don't ever see much rust through. Be cautious about the auger in the very bottom of the fert hopper. They are bad about the augers flights rusting off. you can access it from the bottom of the hopper by removing the cover plate. Hi Ken .... Thanks so much for your reply .... great point on the auger rust. I can see how it would be missed, being hidden. Part of my over concern is that, I dont want to buy something I cant get parts for readily. I would only be using this for a food plot and planting about a half acre a year, so it should last me forever

Any idea what year Massey made this model ?

dieselp- I think one of the things you will find out real fast is that tractors and tractor implements really dont have a year to them. just a range of dates like early 80's , etc. Its not like a car with a specific year and month built.
