Question - does a power shuttle actually somehow engage the clutch behind the scene? In other words, is the shuttle lever just an operating convenience whereby the tractor engages the clutch for you as you go from forward-reverse (though obviously the pedal doesn't move), or is the clutch entirely out of the picture? What made me wonder is the slight delay before the directional change.

Shuttle clutch is completely independent of the ground (foot) clutch. The delay is due the modulation of the hydraulic oil into the clutch pack so the change of direction occurs smoothly.

Thanks - I wasn't sure. I found a Wikipedia article on the topic. It basically said there were two types, one that used multiple shafts and a clutch, the other a planetary gear arrangement. So, the bottom line is that you don't avoid the clutch as a wear-and-tear item on a power shuttle.
