Mine is a 1995 MF1010 with generator. I have had the generator checked out and it is good, but low voltage light stay on until it's revv'd to around 2K. Plus it does not recharge the battery.

Plus left of the steering wheel, where I assume, the regulator is, gets hotter'n crap. I would like to convert this to an alternator, and have been told one wire is the way to go. My questions, are what is the amperage output SUPPOSED to be on the generator? If I do not have an ammeter, just the light, should I ADD one and forget the light?

If so, what do I do with the wiring for the light? Does one side of the light come from the ign switch? Trying to understand this whole process.

If the generator is good, is there a reason that you don't just replace the voltage regulator? I've attached the wiring diagram and the wiring is very simple. The regulator part number should be available in the AGCO parts book.

I looked at the MF Shop Service Manual and it says that the system uses an alternator, not a generator. The part # is GP8122. The output is 12.5A at 4000RPM.

Well they told me it was a generator when they checked it.

No good answer other thanI don't understand it very well. I am pretty darn knowledgable about engines and transmissikn, but charging systems have always been a weak spot for me.

If you decide to pursue R&R of the existing system, I've attached a copy of the shop service manual section.

One reason for replacing the charging system may be be cost of replacement parts. The MF regulator (3284127M1) on ebay is $239.

You may just verify the fins on the existing regulator are clean and that it is attached to the panel well so heat can be dissipated. Heat kills electronics.

If the regulator is attached to the inside of the dash, to the left of the steering wheel, that area gets dowright hot sometimes.

9B-01 is the procedure number not the year.
