I remember the backup on both ends now. After looking over the system in the manual and parts diagrams, I don't think it will be that bad. I am a former mechanic, so the work itself doesn't worry me. Hydraulic systems aren't my specialty, but I can handle it. I am seriously thinking about pulling the pump and changing every last seal and o ring while it's apart. I will have the pto shaft out anyway, so all I have to do is unbolt the coupler. My only concern is getting a true 3 lb. pull for the lever adjustments. I don't have a true spring pull gauge, so I am hoping a digital fish scale will get me close enough?

That should get you close enough. The 3lb pull is just representing the amount of pull of the control valve, that has a 50 year old spring in it.

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions in detail. I plan to get started on it in the next week or so. It's only fair that I take pictures and post them to the thread as I go. Hopefully it will be a leading experience for not only me, but others too. I would like to replace all the seals in the pump, but I'm hesitant to take the dashpot and control valve apart because according to the service manual, adjustments to these will have to be made with 850 pounds of weight on the 3 point. I'm surprised you can't hook a pressure gauge to the system and make the adjustments by psi. Seems like it would be much easier!
