My Straight axel MF135 has a oil leak around the bolts on the Throttle footrest.

I have tightened down the bolts but the leak is small but persistent.

I cant see a gasket in the parts book between the footrest mount and the transmission body.

Does anyone know if a gasket is used or just using some Loctite or other gasket maker/sealer would do the job in this area?

As fare as I know there are no oil behind this mounting, sure it's from there?

Some might have drilled out or put Inn to long bolts or its a crack in the housing. Put some sealing on the bolts should help if it's leaking there.

is there a gasket behind that set-up that might be leaking?

Thanks for the replies.

The parts book does not show a gasket.

I will remove the bolts on the weekend and check whats going on. I cleaned the tractor with degreaser and there is nowhere else showing oil leaks. The bolts look original but if the bolts that are too long or it is a cracked housing that would be a nighmare if its bad. That food rest shows signs of welding etc so repair/strengthening might have taken place before I owned the tractor. I will pull the peddle rest off this weekend and have a good look and report back.

The tractor is relatively leak free except for the stearing box seals. I have pumped JD Cornhead grease into the box and that has stopped the last "big leak" I am planning on fixing the seals when I pull the panels off to respray the bodywork. The tractor is dry and leak free. Thats why I discovered this leak point. I cleaned the tractor with degreaser after the summer season bush hogging and this cleaning exposed this spot which i never noticed because of other leaks.

Thanks for the help.

It doesn't appear cracked unless its cracked between bolt holes. Using too long bolts can just break through the bottom of the tapped hole into the casing. You can buy a sheet of gasket material at a parts store. Cut a piece using the flange as a template and cut the bolt holes. Use a shellack type sealer on the gasket. Use sealer on the bolts also. Buy the thin paper type gasket material not the cork type. You can cut the holes for the bolts by laying the gasket on a board and using a short piece of copper tubing and a hammer to cut nice holes. if you use a razor knife be careful.

Thanks for the advice. I will try it on the weekend and report back. I think I have some of that paper gasket material around somewhere. I will get some Permatex heavy gasket sealant and try what you suggest. Hopefully I will have luck. Thanks again.

I will follow that advice in future if do remove these bolts.

This Saturday I had a look, i degresed the whole area properly. And due to my own stupidity I did not look properly for the source of the leak. After lighting the area in properly and poking around after the degrease I discovered that the upper steering arm above the footrest area has a leak as well and the oil was dripping down onto the footrest. So really I have to pull the steering box off and fix all the seals and I dont have to worry about sealing the bolts. on the footrest( I hope) So apologies to you all for providing a misleading information on the source of the problems. I guess its best not to panic without investigating and evaluating the situation fully.

Totsiens!

Once cleaned & de-greased.. a lite sprinkle of baby powder or talk woulda found that QUICK like a bunny..
Just alittle something to store back in the ol' memory banks..
Good luck on the steering seal replacement..
