If it has been working ok before this, I bet the lube/grease may be cold and stiff. Also if any moisture happens to be in that area, it may be froze. Try to get some heat in that area and I bet it will be fine. Ken Sweet

Is the 4wd lever moving freely? Does it seem to be going through its full range of motion?

Yes moves freely, seems to go through full motion. Loading and unloading it on trailer is when its used the most , have babied the tractor , use a JD 3203 most of the time so the 1635 only has 54 hours. I left the JD at another place I have and keep the 1635 at home , big disappointment

You might(if you haven't already) check the drive shaft couplers. Not a likely problem with such low hours but who knows? They are probably only held in place with lightweight snap rings which have been known to fail, or work out of their grooves allowing couplers to slip out of engagement.

The last time I had a problem like that, A group of new tractors would do the same thing even in pretty mild temps. The manufacturer had used a way too high viscosity lube. We had to change lube to a lower viscosity that would allow the gears to slide easier on the shafts. Ken Sweet

Agreed. We have to keep it clean and lubed on the side of the transmission. 800+ hours and no issues.

Have you got a way to heat the whole unit up with a heater and a tarp. Might free it up. In the winter with snow on the ground, I usually leave mine engaged all the time.

Good luck
