Hello all,

I have had this issue for a while on my MF1758 where when engaged in middle gear and driving, the transmission kicks and goes to neutral. Oil temperature doesn't seem to be a factor and all the levers and arms are attached properly without any loose. I didn't worry to much about it until a relative hit the side of my garage when this issue happened.

I have read in some threads that people would put notches in the lever slide to ''secure'' the lever in place once engaged in gear. I am wondering if I anybody else had this issue or something similar? In slow gear and fast gear I never had any issue whatsoever, in middle gear it happens frequently, especially if I am going uphill.

Thank you

My 1735M has a habit of popping out of gear. I've been trying to see if it was happening in certain situations or random. It's done it about a dozen times in ~75 hours of use. Unfortunately for me it seems to do it most often going down hill, the worst possible time since engine braking disappears and you just start rolling uncontrollably down a slope. Nothing bad has happened yet, but it made me pucker a few times.

I am assuming these are gear tractors? On my mahindra 2810 shuttle The range selector can be difficult to get perfectly in mid range since there is more freeplay than in low or high. Try taking i little more time and making sure it is centered in the mid range position. If mine is going to pop out it usually does it right away. That is a very dangerous situation going down hill.

In my case, I have an hydrostatic transmission. Forgot to mention.

I also have a mahindra 2538 hydro and mid range on it can be a pain to get perfectly in the right position. I will usually ease it back and forth making sure it is good before i take off to do whatever . I also have some hills i go up and down. One goes down to my lake and could be a real problem if it popped out of gear.

I thought your initial statement was perfectly clear. I must have missed the "middle gear" when I was leaning to drive a clutch tractor. Silly me, I have always called actual cut gears by 1,2,3,R etc and continuously variable Hydro & CVT transmissions by Hi-Med-Lo.

Finally got to talk to a Massey tech! Apparently, the lever is just to far from the transmission by design. Two possible solutions: cut the lever flush to the slot or put "notches" on the slot to prevent unwanted arm movement.

I’m going on my fourth year with my 1754 Hydrostat and it just recently (couple weeks ago) began popping out of gear, so far, just out of Medium. It’s done it a half dozen times.
it must have been reading your posts on the forum!

Im wondering if there is wear or weakness on some detent ball/spring? Altho it still feels like it goes firmly into each gear.
