Mf 30?
Thanks to all of your help I have gather lots of info on my new "toy".
Now I'm considering rebuilding this engine myself. First off I'm not a mechanic., but I am persistent. My dad and I are considering rebuilding this. He's worked in gasoline motors over many years but no expert and never diesel.

I'm pretty sure it has a broken ring. And we're trying to do minimum and leave motor in. So, how hard is it to do new sleeves and Pistons ,rods cap bearings but NOT crankshaft bearings. Is it possible to just do this and NOT remove the entire motor? We don't have anyway to remove the motor. Not familiar with the injector pump stuff are there particular things you're supposed to do when removing them. Never taken sleeves out. How hard is that? I've heard that's pretty rough. Can I do this?
Again, thanks for the help!

You would be doing what's called a "in-frame" rebuild. I would also change the rod bearings, "roll in" some new main bearings, and a new oil pump since you will have the oil pan off anyways. You don't need to remove the injector pump itself to do what you want to do, so you don't have to worry about timing the injector pump, camshaft, etc. It wouldn't hurt to have the injectors in the head tested to make sure they are working properly. The hardest part is the sleeves, but if you have good mechanical skills you should be able to do it.

How is the oil pressure when warm and on low rpm?

You can make your own sleeve puller pretty easy. The other advise so far has been spot on.

Thanks for all the info! Again I'm not a mechanic. And the sleeves worry me. I can definitely make a puller like that. But I'm sure these sleeves are the original ones from 1970ish. And in sure they will be a major pain to get out. I'm worried I won't be able to get them out. Have yall ran into some that have to be bored out because they can't be removed?

Thanks!

There is some tricks to get really stuck sleeves out without have to machine them out. The tricks do require some experience because you possibly could damage the block if you do them wrong. The safest trick is to take a torch, and heat the liner in a vertical line 120 degrees apart as quick as possible (you don't want to heat the whole liner, or block). By heating the 3 vertical lines it will cause the liner to shrink at those three lines which will help loosen the liners in the block. If you don't feel like you can do it maybe find a reputable, experienced diesel engine mechanic with the proper tools that would be willing to do a side job on the weekend for a few dollars.

Looking at the manual that Agvg posted, those are wet liners in your engine and should come out easy. Also learned that in the UK wrist pins are called gudgeon pins.

May have dry sleeves. A little more tricky. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...intage/258591-mf-165-knocking.html?highlight= check out this thread for info on sleeve removal and installation, starting on post 28
