MF35 thermostatt install

Wanted to change out thermostat on the tractor. Took it apart and lo and behold no thermostat. Ordered a 160 degree thermostat and thought I put it in the right way. Refilled radiator and ran tractor. Ran for about 10 minutes turned it off and fluid started leaking out of radiator overflow tube. Not a lot, but I never saw this before putting the thermostat in. Do I have the thermostat installed in the correct direction? I did check the thermostat in a pot of hot water and confirmed it does start opening at 160 and looked to be full open by about 180.

The thermostat in the picture looks a bit odd in design, I'd like to see both sides before I could say how it goes.

now that we can clearly see the spring its obvious the thermostat was correctly installed in the first picture.
Why did it blow the coolant out? Likely a Pocket of air trapped in the head, dose the stat have a jiggle valve or air bleed hole?
If not you can drill a very small hole, install stat with hole at 12 o'clock.

Don't go drilling any holes that's nuts!!!

You only ran it for 10 minutes?
I'm positive that isn't long enough to get your motor up to operating temperature.
Let that thing run for half an hour with the radiator cap off.
If you park on an incline even better, front of tractor higher than the rear.
All your air will escape from the cooling system and then you can top it off to what's needed.
It may burp and overflow a bit but that's fine.

You appear to have the thermostat in correctly. The "round tube" with the wax pellet inside it goes toward the cylinder head.

These radiators are not meant to be filled to the top. They should be filled to about 1/4" above the core to allow for coolant expansion. If you overfill, it will self level itself when coolant is pushed out of the overflow.
