I agree, I would just have downloaded Open Office, in fact, I have one computer with it installed now and like it better.

Hi

I use Apache OpenOfice and Libre Office (bit of history there as to why there are two). Google for the links. I'd suggest you try LibreOffice, they’re both free and open-source. I have no probs opening and saving doc, dox and xls files but occasionally there will be issues in "round tripping". Best though to just send Word users an ods or odf doc and say "it's an international standard, your word processor should be able to open it" :) Actually Word will open an ODF file.

Libre Office is free fast, complete - give it a go. Some things will be different in the interface but persist. It will pay off further down the track to use an open standard.
