My wife was kind enough to help with mowing last season after my back surgery. She was driving my TC21d through the yard after finishing mowing and didn't see our property line marker (A solid pipe in the ground that sticks up about 6"). She caught the mower deck on it and I think that something got knocked out of alignment or bent. The mower does not mow evenly now and seems leave trails between the blades. What is the easiest way to insure that my mower is level? Also on the 714 mower should the front and rear wheel touch the ground?

Thanks for any help.

My mower is a 914a. but I'll give it a shot at some ideas. Park tractor on cement then measure from some common points ie; bottom lip of deck at the four "corners" or from the center of the rollers to the cement. My manual states that the wheels should just touch the ground lightly, part of the weight of the mowing deck should be carried by the lift mechanism. Also that the deck should be level front to back. Hope this helps. Greg

Measure from the tips of the blades on each end of each blade to level concrete. Measure them once and then rotate them 90 degrees and measure them again. This will tell you if you have a bent spindle or blade. If the blades check out OK then check the deck. Leveling the deck won't help if a spindle or blade is bent. I have bent both spindles and blades doing commercial mowing.

Sorry you are correct the the mower is a 914a. Thanks for the reply. I think that both of your replies will definitely help. I was kind of think more that on of the lift arms or adjustment arm were bent. She was not mowing at the time, but the deck was in the down position. Although I can not all together rule out the bent spindle suggestion. Problem is that I am looking for suggestions to what could be wrong and I have not had a chance to look at it. I am just now starting to bet back into shape enough to look at it. Back surgery can be a real bear!!!

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

The 60CMS on my '25 was pretty flimsy compared to the mass of the tractor pushing it, I twisted the deck by snagging a root at a slow speed, but going down hill. Some creative jacking, wish I had a PortaPower, got things close.

I'd do as suggested, find some flat concrete, look for bent blades/spindles, and just check the blade edges themselves. If the deck was powered when it hit the pipe, I'm sure one or more of the blade ends is better used for blunt trauma injuries on your local politician than mowing grass.
