I have been using a new Woods 72" rear discharge 3 pt hitch mower this spring as a finish mower on bluegrass and I am more than happy with the results. It follows the ground contour well and dispurses the grass out the rear evenly. With the rear discharge each blade throws the grass out the back, with a side discharge mower the grass is thrown from one blade to the next. The advantages of a belly mower are that you can mow closer around trees etc and you don't have to look backwards to watch the mowing. When you turn a rear mount the back of the mower can hit objects if you don't pay attention. A belly mower only has the front tires going over the grass but we have had no tire streak problem so far with our Woods and 3010 which is heavy for mowing. In my case a belly mower was $2800 and the Woods rd7200 was $1500. You can buy parts for a 3pt hitch anywhere while the tractor mower parts are more expensive. It is all personal preference and what you are used to. A 3p mower serves are needs well.
