Hello Everyone,

I am having a small problem with my mid pto. Sometimes when I try to engage the mower deck on my 4010 it doesn't do anything. The light comes on but nothing happens. Sometimes it starts to turn very slowly and then kicks in. I can get it to work fine if I try it a couple of times. It only happens when the tractor is just started and hasn't warmed up. If I have been using it for a while it engages fine. Could it just be caused by cold hydraulic fluid? I haven't had a problem with the rear pto but I don't use it very often.

This must be a tough one for no responses.
I think the first thing to check, might sound funny, is the belt on the deck. The pto might be coming on but the belt is not turning the blades. Check splines on pto shaft to the deck also. Is it an electric controled pto like on my 2210? How many hours are on your 4010?

Yeah, I figured someone would answer right away but I guess they are as stumped as me. I just went out and tried it and it didn't turn at first. The driveshaft wasn't turning and then it started going slowly and all of a sudden it kicked in. The tractor only has 150 hrs. on it and the splines look fine. It is definately inside the transmission somewhere. The pto is controlled electronically.

Be sure and check all your electrical connections first. I believe if there is a problem with getting full voltage, then some slipage might occur, or failure all together. If turning slow, then something is slipping. Warranty??

Nope, I tried it yesterday and it worked fine. It probably does it 1 out of 5 times the first time I try to start it when cold.

Just a thought, are you sure that you PTO selector is not half way between mid and rear settings when this happens?

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought. I didn't check to see if the rear would engage though. I will have to check that.
