I want to buy and use a Middle Buster to dig a small drainage trench. My tractor is 95HP MF, all the Middle Busters i see are maximum 60HP. Can I use it even though it says 40 or 60 MAX HP, or do they make larger Middle Busters.
Thanks for any help.

I was in the same situation, wanting to clean out the bottom of a trench I had dug with a proper field drainage ditcher I had borrowed from my farming uncle. The soil that had collapsed in over the past several years was quite loose. When I got the middle buster to go low enough the 'ears' of the plowshare just folded back and trailed behind. In my case it worked well enough but I don't think it would have opened up the ground on a virgin pass. I was thinking about bending them back and welding in support for next time in a year or so. It would truly depend on your soil to some extent, we have heavy soil here and our tractor is 100hp.

If you can get it on your 3pt hitch , sure can . I think the buster will be cat. 1 and your hitch is cat. 2 .

Thats exactly what I'm trying, is to clean out a trench that hasn't been cleaned in a few years to help with drainage in field. Heavier soil, but it is "loose" as it's been worked by plow in prior years.

My experiment was under $100 and now I get the chance to modify and re-engineer to see if I can make it better for my uses. That is the fun part for me. Just make sure you will be able to reach the bottom of your trench, mine was just barely long enough.

I would suggest looking for a subsoiler that you can mount a middlebuster plow on. The reasoning (and I learned from experience) is that while they sort of look the same the frame for the subsoiler is heavier and more solid. I bent the frame of the Countyline middlebuster I bought and I'm just using 30hp. Of course, some of that may depend on the brand.
First one is the middlebuster frame and the second is my subsoiler.

Instead of burying the MB and doing the job in one pass, try to use several passes with the plow partially into the soil. Or weld stiffeners onto the MB shank and do it in one pass. Not difficult.

Good luck
