I think I have settled on a grapple for my kubota 4240. The leading grapple is a MIE 48" single lid. I know a few people here have these grapples but I have never seen much feedback or action shots like most other brands.

My one area of concern is the bottom tine length or lack there of and how close the first cross braces are to the teeth. Michigan iron and equipments site shows the tine length to only be 18.5" which seems around 5.5" shorter than typical. I will be digging/uprooting lots of small bushes and thorn trees and some general cleanup. After that primary duty will be firewood related so feedback in these areas would be the most helpful.

These grapples are lightweight and appear to be very well built. I especially like the top lid design. Right now the EA 54" single lid is the runner up.

I guess no MIE users have seen this, so I will give it a bump.

I prefer longer bottom tine length for picking up brush and rocks. I don't do firewood, but seems like longer would be better for that.

Never have needed to dig/uproot small bushes and thorn trees, I use a brush hog and a tree puller for that.

I have a MIE grapple but mine is a dual lid 60" and I am very happy with it. Get the mesh for the back to save your grill.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Murph you were one of the guys I was waiting to hear from since I had seen your posts on the grapple before. Have you done any digging/uprooting with it, do the short tines work ok or does it prevent the grapple from going deep enough? I know everyone says to be careful and not push with the top lid it seems like the short tines might make that happen easier. I do see in the pic you posted that with the bucket rolled back that the lower tines protrude farther than the top clamp.

I was also wondering about the ability to back rake with the top clamp, this is typically not done with this type of grapple but the MIE at least looks more rugged/suited to it than most other L grapples.

After doing a bunch more reading I think I am leaning towards a 60" now. I have plenty of lift capacity and I took a trip around my property to asses some of the work I want to do and I think the 60" will be a better choice.

I think the 60" will be much better also. Should be about the same as loader bucket, I think.
