I have had a simular problem welding with my century 140.
after trying muliple settings I moved my ground very close and
sanded a new patch to get a solid ground....
The simplist solutions are the best

Are you switching polarity when going from flux core to shielding gas?
Use DCEP (reverse polarity) for bare wire welding with shielding gas.
But don’t forget that a lot of shelf shielding flux core wires require changing polarity to DCEN.
