Mig Welder Gas Pressure

/ Mig Welder Gas Pressure #11
I turn off the valve on the tank when I'm not welding. I think my Hobart leaks a little gas when not in use based on my experience. If I'm not welding, the valve is closed. Hope this helps,

Kurt

Vin,
Does more gas pressure give greater weld penetration?

John, no i don't beleive so, But different gases and gas mixes do. an example of this is straight argon gives little penetration but you get a very clean weld (little spatter) is great for very thin plate 2 mm or less. but not suitable at all for heaver plate.
where CO2 is cheap for say welding heavy plate good heat good penertration but very dirty lots of spatter.

around here they will take your old tank in on trade for a larger tank and give you dollar for dollar for what you paid for it. so shouldn't be any money lost. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
