I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to say thanks to everyone that contributed valuable information for solving multiple problems. I have a 15-year-old 502 Mule and it has been dead for 5 years. Luckily, none of my problems were as extraordinary as what was posted on this forum. I had a dead battery due to mother-n-law accidently cutting the 18VAC power supply cord (it wasn't buried). Also, the temporary yard service company (I threw my back) cut the slave cable with their edger. I was expecting the worst, but I was able to do diagnostics based on the knowledge from this forum. The only thing I had to purchase was 2 new remotes. Thanks for all of the advice. I wanted to buy a new 30ft slave cable to avoid the hassle and time to splice the 15-year-old original, and it does not come up on Mighty Mule's website. They sell the 6'lg master cable, but not the 30'lg slave cable. Luckily, the installer of this system didn't cut the cord. I removed the severed 5' section and soldered the plug for the counter board to the remaining 25' of cable. Everything works!
