I saw that episode of Tank Overhaul. He used 15 Km's of STAINLESS STEEL wire which he said was 20X the cost of regular steel wire. It took him most of a day to weld the 1 1/2 armour plate. Incidently he said they welded it with stainless steel wire when they manufactured the tanks back in the 40's....that's 1940's...
Also of note was his steady hand as when he cut the individual pieces of each of the tanks before bringing them together he made the cuts free hand with a cutting torch. Selection of the proper tip for the job can yield a great clean cut. He didn't use any plasma cutter.....although he says he has one.
Finally, if memory serves me I think it was a Miller he used to do the many many many passes that he did.
Great show....you need deep pockets for that persuit.
