Sounds like another excuse to raise the price and lower the reliability.

Interesting applications for especially for industry...couldn't say how much it might affect the average Joe or would he need it.

We will have to see what the price structure will be come Feb.

I have had zero performance issues using any of the Milwaukee tools I have purchased over the past several years since I switched over. I use them for my job.

The newest Generation 2 Fuel tools brought out this Fall had all the latest improvements... torque values and RPM increases, new impacting designs, additional operational modes, instant braking, and the pricing stayed exactly the same as the old stuff. Plus they sweetened deal to upgrade by giving not just one but TWO additional of the newest 5AH batteries with each -22 tool kit for a total of 4 batteries.

Not to shabby at all.

All kinds of great Milwaukee tool promo's on the net right now leading up to Christmas.
Free tool give away's going on every day!

Just need to know where to look. :D

The first phase of ONE-KEY delivers 3 core benefits that will have an immediate impact on productivity: inventory management, tool reporting and tool control.

The inventory component is really a standalone system (connect by computer & app) as it tracks any item tool or otherwise like ladder, jobox, threader, bender, camera system, whatever even if you don't have any ONE-KEY tools.

Obviously many of those features are geared to business, trade professionals, mechanical and building contractors and industrial end users.

Hey but never hurts to know what you got and where it is sometimes

And according to the info available ONE-KEY could mean many other possible features in safety, performance, tracking and theft deterrent we can't even imagine now.

Remotely track the exact location of all your ONE-KEY tools with theft deterrents such as disabling tool from afar when stolen.

Live jobsite data, alerts when a tools are not performing correctly.

Future improvements to tools performance/features,

And linking tools to specific users.

"Because these new tools feature a combination of the smartest electronics available, brushless motors and advanced lithium-ion batteries, their power and versatility make them perfect for an incredibly wide variety of applications. With all this power at their fingertips, our users want to be able to harness the performance and customize it for their specific needs", said Christian Coulis, Vice President of Product Management for Milwaukee Tool.

"With ONE-KEY we are giving our users the ability to take full advantage of the sophisticated electronics in our M18 FUEL tools so they can communicate with them in ways never before possible and tailor their tool to how they work".

The Tool Control functionality within ONE-KEY allows users to customize a variety of settings in managing tool output everything from torque and speed to trigger ramp up and sensing progress throughout a given application.

My note* anyone using these tools right now knows how the the electronics package will cause them to cut out if you stall the motor and before they start to overheat or cause torque tool damage like snap a chuck bolt etc...

and that they require you to release the trigger to reset the tool to then start over.

Some more One Key info..

Use predetermined set-ups for specific fasteners and materials, or completely customize torque and speed settings for the application

Setups will remove the guesswork by providing torque and speed outputs based on selected materials, fasteners and accessories.

With the touch of the button on the tool, users will be able to easily go back and forth between these saved profiles
Once the tool is set, a phone is no longer needed.

Matching control and speed gives the most consistent results, driving speeds, increased run-time, longer accessory life, as well as reduced tool stalling

Looks like that technology will come at cost though about $50 more on bare tool or single tool kit and an additional $80-100 on the combo according to Milwaukee.

There is another thread about this somewhere too.

Only benefit I can see is tool tracking. Would certainly like to learn more about that, as we have a problem with our cordless drills and drivers at work coming up missing. Would be nice to suggest to the boss (as we usually get the Milwaukee fuel stuff anyway). Would be worth it if tools stopped coming up missing and no one seems to know where they went.

How? Is there something that caused you to come to this conclusion, or are you just trying to be negative?

No, not really. I just don't see any way that this is going to be reliable in a hand tool that is used under all sorts of conditions. Time will tell.

Okay, I understand better now what you meant. I think this will probably provide a service to some companies that have "fleets" of tools, not so much for the DIY guy. I misinterpreted what you meant by less reliable.

Well I still don't know that means...less reliable?

Every major tool manufacturer already offers a variety of electronically switched, multi speed configured, brushed and brushless construction tools today. These aren't slide switch mechanical gear change and have been on the job for a while now. I worked in the electronic manufacturing industry for many years and potted electronics would be the least of my worries in a tool. Go figure they control virtually everything automotive with computers and sensors so why would that be an issue in a simple hand held tool?

They are already built to withstand drops and impacts and day long use and the saving grace of the current electronic package is to prevent critical tool abuse by the operator.

I mean really dropping a tool in bucket of water or destroying it with sheetrock dust...no tool old or new will stand up to such abuses.

Btw Rockwell just came out with a 3 speed impact driver with, get this...

A 20 year warranty on tool and batteries

Go figure.
